The Return of Blu & Exile
Photographed by B+
It's been eight years since the magnificent California based Hip-Hop duo Blu & Exile released a full-length studio album. Now, the return is finally here with their third LP called "Miles: From an Interlude Called Life" (Miles for short)
What I am not about to do is compare their last album (Give Me Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them, 2012) to this project. A big problem within music fans and especially critics is the uphold that they distill within artists where they feel the need to measure up to their last records, that stigma needs to stop. Yes, of course you can most definitely hear the familiar in-depth drum breakbeats and nostalgic samples that Exile lays down in addition to Blu's smooth and soulful wordplay, but, this album doesn't make you return to what was the past, but what is in the now, and hereafter. This 20 track LP is a consistent narration that exhibits power and strength with also a full dosage of the education we all need. As well as adding into the mix of all the illustrious features such as Iman Omari, Jimetta Rose, Miguel, Cashus King, and more.
If you aren't really hearing and taking in the extraordinary rhythmic words of Blu, then what are you doing?
"Before I rhyme my thoughts intertwine with the design, blind mice, holding a mic, don't know what it's like, till they become one with the light, spread like sunshine." Track 19 (Spread Sunshine, Blu & Exile)
If you plan on picking up this project take it in fully, don't skip a beat and let the sounds take you on a supreme ride.
Favorite tracks: 4. Miles Davis 6. Music Is My Everything 9. You Ain't Never Been Blue 19. Spread Sunshine
You can find Miles on all streaming platforms.
